ISLAMABAD Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Sunday the hopes of country were pinned on the youth as the government wanted to empower them.The Information Minister was addressing a Youth Convention organized by Pakistan Peoples Party here, which was attended by office-bearers and workers of People Youth Organisations from all over the country including AJK and GB.A large number of youth from universities, colleges and different walks of life also participated in the convention.Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan urged the youth to get united for the the country’s defence and run it in line with the visions of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Shaheed.
The minister said the PPP leadership by uniting the youth from across the country at a single platform had proved that it was struggling to save Pakistan.
The presence of youth is indicative of the government’s potential to counter any evil designs against the country, she said.
The minister attributed the successful holding of the convention to Faryal Talpur, Chairperson of Peoples Party Youth Organisation.
She said that the government would activate youth centres as part of its endeavours to strengthen and build capacity of the youth.The Prime Minister has decided to establish IT complexes at district levels, which would impart computer education, besides enabling the youth to use internet,facebook, twitter and a host of websites, she added.
The minister held out full assurances her ministry would extend all possible facilities to the youth.She underscored the need to mobilise the young women.
The minister was happy to note a large of young women youth were present in the convention.“Today’s Pakistan wants young women and men to work together and put up their best efforts...as men and women are two wheels of a vehicle,” she said.
Dr Firdous said that PPP had this to its credit that it had mobilized women, whom she described as an asset and who needed to be taken along.
“The government is with you (youth) and it will patronize you to make you ready to face challenges,” she said.The minister urged the PPP office-bearers and workers to mobilize the youth.
