Eight killed, 12 injured in Salarzai blast


Eye-witnesses claim the bomb was planted in a shop.

At least eight people were killed and 12 others were injured when a bomb ripped through Pashat Bazaar in Salarzai area of Bajaur Agency on Saturday.


Official sources claimed the members of a local peace committee were the target of the attack and one of the members, Tehsil Khan, is also among the dead. The injured are admitted to the Civil Hospital in Bajaur. Tehsil Khan was a Pakistan People’s Party leader in Salarzai.

According to eye-witnesses, the bomb was planted in a shop. The security forces have cordoned off the area and started investigations.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have condemned the attack and expressed sympathies for the bereaved families.

 

Meanwhile, Taliban have accepted the responsibility of the blast.
