Authorities were unaware of Osama's presence in Pakistan: Hillary

Hillary Clinton says that Pak-US relations have reached a turning point.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday said Pakistani authorities did not know about Osama’s presence in Pakistan.

Talking to the media at US Embassy in Islamabad, she said that Pak-US relations had reached a turning point and the United States wanted Pakistan to be part of reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan.

She said that United States wanted Pakistan to take decisive action against terrorists, adding that both the United States and Pakistan should jointly fight against terrorists. She said that anti-US conspiracy theories won’t solve Pakistan’s problems.

She said that Pakistani leadership believed that someone in the country was helping Osama bin Laden. She said that Pakistan’s participation was necessary for a successful dialogue with Taliban. She said that there were safe havens in Pakistan and the authorities have promised to take action against terrorists.

Hillary said that Al Qaeda attacked the whole world from Pakistan and the organisation did not finish after Osama bin Laden’s death. She said that the United States wanted a stable, secure and prospers Pakistan, which would be a guarantee to the regional peace. She said that extremists had no regard for humanity as they killed even women and children.

She reiterated that there was no proof that the senior leadership of Pakistan knew about Osama’s presence in Pakistan. She said that peace in Afghanistan was in the interest of the US and Pakistan. She said that if terrorists wanted to present a political ideology, they should take part in politics. Hillary agreed that differences exist with Pakistan on some issues, but her government wanted Pakistan to help the world community in fight against terrorism.

Chairman US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen said there was a need to restore confidence between Pakistan Army and the United States.
