Govt taking steps to ensure law and order in Karachi, Balochistan: Fidous

ISLAMABAD, March 25: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the government is taking measures to ensure permanent law and order in Karachi and Balochistan. Talking to a private news channel, she said that some elements were involved in disturbing peace in the economic hub of the country. She said that the Rangers and law enforcement agencies had limited powers due to which the desired results could not be achieved. She, however, said that steps were being taken for permanent solution of the problems.

In this regard, she said that a mechanism would be approved in the next Federal Cabinet meeting to maintain peace in Karachi and Balochistan.Dr. Firdous said that some elements in the political forces might be involved in the criminal activities for their vested interests.She said that the army could assist the Rangers and police, but it was not a solution of the problem.The Minister said that in the previous Cabinet meeting, Interior Minister Rehman Malik had informed that the persons attached with the law enforcement agencies for arresting the criminals were also being targeted by the outlaws. These criminals, she said, had fled from Swat and Malakand during the operation.She said that in the next Cabinet meeting, all the stakeholders would be involved in devising a mechanism for maintaining law and order in Karachi and Balochistan.The PPP government was taking measures with the support of law enforcement agencies to foil the nefarious designs of the anti-social elements, she added.
